Book,
Music and Lyrics by Dennis Livingston THE
CRETACEOUS CABARET is a four-character,
one-hour children's theater musical that depicts
how dinosaurs discovered they were facing
extinction in the prehistoric Cretaceous era, what
they thought about their dilemma and their surprise
at realizing that some of them had already evolved
into creatures that would live on into our times -
birds. The
show is also available in a 30-minute version
suitable for science and natural history museums
and touring arts programs for elementary schools.
The shorter version was chosen for presentation in
a festival sponsored by the International
Museum Theatre Alliance
in June 1999. A
prior version of the show received an Honorable Mention
from the 1996 Jackie White Memorial National Children’s
Play Writing Contest, which cited Cretaceous as "one
of the most creative plays we have seen in a long time." The
group went on to say that "The play would stage well
and be entertaining to watch. The cabaret theme is just
plain fun. The audience learns geological history without
realizing they are actually being given a lesson. Readers
appreciated the puns and quips throughout the play. The
fact the parts are all sex neutral is a real plus for any
theatre school." You
